“Student Of The Game” is the debut studio album from Dublin hip hop artist, Deep Reasoning. Work began on this album in 2011. 4 years later the album was completed and features no less than seven different producer each taking turns at tracks. The result is an album that sounds different and fresh.

The album opens with an Intro called “Knock ‘Em Out”. It sets the tone for the rest of the album but unfortunately once or twice it sounds like the lyrics don’t flow perfectly. That’s a very minor issue though because the rest of the album sounds spot on.

“What Do You Wanna Be?” will resonate with all kids in the 90’s as who wasn’t “collecting pogs and shiny stickers and playing football against a wall”. anybody who remembers the importance of a good slammer will love this song.

“Watch Out” is a scathing attack on the media and electronic devices that “we need to function”. Lyrics such as “seeing isn’t believing, its deceiving” accurately capture the media propaganda that is shoved into people’s faces.

“Destiny” has an awesome beat produced by Dun Laoghaire native, Payter.

The album comes to a close with the fantastic “Never Give In”. Another track produced by Payter who is quite clearly a talented producer. The fast pace and almost movie like beats make this probably the best track on the whole album and is a great way to end a very accomplished album.

After spending some time in Boston perfecting his craft with US producers and artists, the American influence is evident on the album which makes it unlike other Irish hip hop albums. The addition of Siobhan McKenna and James O’Reilly add another dimension to the two songs that they feature on.

The album is very polished and is almost flawless. Patter stands out among the host of producers on the album. Thoughts of a Deep Reasoning and Payter album brings excitement and hopefully that’s something that may happen in the future.
