How was Zaska formed?

In 2010 I went to Electric Picnic for the first time, I sampled a mysterious potion and I had an epiphany to bring together the most bad ass musicians I knew to create a sound both complex but also extremely funky. I made some calls and within a few days I had a brand new band with the most original name of all time “Groove".

There have been many members of Zaska over time, what is the current lineup for the album?

Its ever changing! It's basically between 20 + musicians, I have 3 of everyone.

Why has it taken this long to work on your first album?

It took roughly 2 years in total which i suppose isn't crazy long when you think of alot of albums? Started writing after I released my 2 EP's in 2014 and did roughly 100 demos, takes a while when it all comes from 1 person.

Is the album completely written?

Yes the album is completely written.

Does the album have a title?

It has a few possible ones, don't want to give them away at this point as im still not 100 percent sure.

What can people expect from the album?

Stank faces, stone cold groovin, crazy arrangements.

Why turn to Fund it?

No other money.

Do you think that crowdsourcing is the future of independent musicians

Yes, because labels don't have a lot of money these days and if they do they will put it into commercial money making acts, not alternative ones unfortunately!

Why should people fund you?

Becuase this is a rare collection of Dublin talent that deserves to be heard, we got all dem catzzz:)

How hard was it to come up with rewards for funders?

Not too hard, hardest part was the budget.

Are there plans to tour the album?

Yes Hopefully, always been my dream to tour!

Who are your musical inspirations?

D'angelo, Dirty Projectors, Earth Wind and Fire, Frank Ocean, Hiatus Kaiyote, J Dilla, James Blake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Michael Jackson, Taylor McFerrin, The Beatles, Tune Yards, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Stevie Wonder

What Irish artist do you currently enjoy?

Loah, Melty Brains, Wyvern Lingo, Feh - Dah, Manden Express, Kojaque, Hozier, Barq

What has been the highlight of your musical career?

So hard to say, getting to release my 1st EP was such a big deal for me at the time, will never forget the release party, awesome night!

What is your favourite hot beverage?

Herbal tea.

What was the first album you bought?

Now 47, had Britney Spears on it and Ricky Martin on it!

What was the last movie you watched and what is your 5 word review of it?

Forrest Gump, Run Forrest, what a ledge.

When a cat sleeps, what do you think it dreams about?

Funky albums.

What is the best book you’ve ever read?

Anything by Ross O' Carroll Kelly.
